Nico Alegria, Data Manager and Financial Manager
Nico earned a BS from UC Berkeley in 2012 with a double major in Society & Environment and Forestry & Natural Resources. Using GIS, he helped map potential bird habitat for the California Black Rail project. During the summer of 2013, he worked throughout the Sierra Nevada mountain range where he helped gather accurate carbon and water yield data from trees within the mixed conifer forest type.
Nico had a wild time interning with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy this past summer. His research focused on wildlife population responses to acute pulses of human activity.
He aims to have a career in solving environmental problems associated with the wildland-urban interface.

Sarah Anderson, Associate Professor, UCSB, Faculty Advisor
Sarah Anderson arrived at the Bren School in 2007, bringing expertise in political structures and dynamics, which profoundly influence environmental policy. Her research interests include legislatures, political parties, public policy, statistical methods, and environmental politics. Those interests are reflected in her experience in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a U.S. congressman’s legislative assistant and also researched legislation to brief members of the House National Parks and Public Lands Subcommittee. She is working to quantify the impact of environmentally concerned constituents on congressional voting, and seeking to determine the degree to which environmental voting, agricultural voting, and voting in other policy areas reflect more general voting in Congress.
